“The Giver” Gives a Little Extra

Childsplay’s October  show, “The Giver” is a not to be missed production.  1994 Newbery Medal winner, thought provoking novel, beginning book of series… but wait there’s more!  Here comes the Ginsu knife for the upcoming event.  YOU CAN MEET THE AUTHOR.  The actual author of “The Giver,” Lois Lowry, will be visiting locally discussing her final book in the Giver quartet, “Son.”  How timely is this?  Not only can you read the award winning novel, see an amazing theatrical adaptation of it, AND meet the book’s author.  It’s a triple threat!  It’s an opportunity not to be missed!  This kind of magic doesn’t happen that often and YOU can be a part of it.

6:oopm (doors open at 5:30pm)

Dobson High School Auditorium, 1501 W. Guadalupe Road, Mesa, AZ  85202

If you purchase the book through our local Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe they will secure your seat at the event AND (look how many ANDS there are related to this!) they will get you a place in the book signing line.

Need I say it?  “Wow!”

I know, personally I was very excited to find out that Childsplay would be producing this amazing work of art.  So, suffice it to say I am now overwhelmed with excitement.

Hey, how cool would it be to go to the book signing, get Ms. Lowry’s signature on the book and then… AND THEN… bring it to the show and perhaps get some actors autographs from the actual production?  Sounds like a cool, memory making idea to me!

So much to do.  Let the month of “The Giver” begin!

Never Too Hot To Enjoy The Theatre

Yes, it’s way too hot outside to form complete thoughts.  Yes, it isn’t going to cool off soon.  Yes, it’s virtually impossible to look forward to doing much of anything.  They say we’re the “Valley of the Sun.”  I say it’s more like the “Surface of the Sun.”  But, guess where it’s always a balmy 76 degrees?  Inside a theatre!  Plus, as an extra added magical addition to the “cool factor” a person gets to sit back and journey into a world that might include rock and roll presidential leaders, Junie B. Jones or some farm animals that get ahold of a typewriter and write a letter that just might change their lives.  I say give it a chance.  Brave the heat and get to the one place that will always make you feel transported out of the desert.  I know I look forward to being a part of the magic that is Childsplay.  I invite you to be “cool” with me.
